Why Julian Wood?

Julian Wood playing days

Julian Wood was educated in Berkshire and shone as a County youth player resulting in his selection for England U15 and Young England. He later joined Hampshire CCC as a left hand batsman and medium paced bowler and made his debut, smashing his first ball in first class cricket for four. Julian made valuable contributions during his five years at Hampshire playing alongside David Gower, Malcolm Marshall, Robin and Chris Smith.

Having learned alongside these first class players what it takes to play professional cricket he went on to play cricket in Australia and South Africa before captaining Berkshire CCC for five years. It was during this period that the club enjoyed their most successful period for decades under his leadership.

Upon his retirement in 2006, Julian founded the JW Cricket Academy and poured his heart and soul into bringing on the cricketers of tomorrow. As an ex-professional and ECB level 3 coach, Julian brings all his experience of playing against some of the world’s best teams and players to instil in his pupils just how hard you have to work if you want to succeed at the highest level.

Julian believes that apart from the technical aspects there are four key areas that players must master if they are to succeed:

A POSITIVE ATTITUDE is vital to overcome difficulties and create a winning environment, turning past failures into tomorrow’s triumphs.

CLARITY OF PURPOSE is absolutely crucial to help you commit to your goals and align your behaviour with them.

SPECIALIZED INTELLIGENCE is what you get when you learn from your mistakes, make positive decisions and get some perspective by looking at the bigger picture of your game.

PURE CONFIDENCE is what you get when you believe in your abilities, pursue peak performance with pure passion, banish fear and develop mental muscle.
